There are just over three weeks left until the opening day of the arc season. If you haven’t done so already, take your bow to the local pro shop to have a new string and cable fitted. The store is less busy now and your chain will need a break-in period. While you’re at it, treat yourself to a new accessory – a new sight, new arrows, or a lighted arrow nock. Take your bow home and practice, practice, practice. At the same time, start planning your hunting strategy, especially if you plan to hunt from a tree.

The first task is to decide where to place the stand for optimal success. The first criterion is ease of access. You must be able to approach it both easily and quietly. The same goes for your exit strategy. Your goal is to be able to enter and exit your stand without disturbing a single deer. Look for places that aren’t too far from old roads, trails, or power lines, or that are on the edge of a pasture.
